Big Splash closes Oct. 31: where Suwanee kids play in the off-season

The short answer

Big Splash, the Town Center Park fountain, runs April 1 to October 31, so its last day in 2026 is Saturday, October 31. After that, downtown Suwanee kids still have PlayTown Suwanee, the trains at Station Park, the lawn and Reading Grotto at Town Center on Main, the library, the free Bark Ranger booklet and the loop trail at Sims Lake Park.

Big Splash, the interactive fountain in Town Center Park, runs from April 1 to October 31, so its last day this year is Saturday, October 31, 2026. Until then it is generally open 9:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. daily, weather permitting (City of Suwanee). After it shuts off, downtown still has plenty for kids: PlayTown Suwanee on Main Street, the trains at Station Park, the lawn and Reading Grotto at Town Center on Main, the library, and the Bark Ranger booklet. For a longer outing, Sims Lake Park has a seven-acre lake and a 1.2-mile loop trail.

The last two weeks of Big Splash

If your kids want one more run through the jets, the fountain is open daily through October 31, and there are two Saturdays left after today: October 24 and October 31. Big Splash has 43 jets and uses up to 1,400 gallons of recycled water per minute; the city calls it one of Gwinnett’s largest interactive fountains. The rules (City of Suwanee):

  • No food, gum, drinks or glass containers in the fountain area.
  • No pets.
  • Toddlers must wear swim diapers, and footwear is strongly recommended.
  • Daycares, camps and other organized groups of more than ten must reserve.

PlayTown Suwanee: the obvious first stop

PlayTown Suwanee at 425 Main Street (City of Suwanee) is the playground the community built. More than 1,200 volunteers rebuilt it as PlayTown Suwanee 2.0 on October 9–15, 2023, in the same spot as the original (City of Suwanee). It covers 13,000 square feet, with separate areas for toddlers and older children, a lighted pavilion with wheelchair-accessible picnic tables, and a continuous loop design meant to let every child play, whatever their ability. The city says it is built mainly from recycled plastic, more than 1 million milk jugs’ worth. Public restrooms are on site, and the pavilion can be rented for parties (City of Suwanee).

Behind PlayTown, a StoryWalk created by Girl Scout Gold Award recipient Shannon Kress runs along the Brushy Creek Greenway (City of Suwanee). The greenway connects directly to PlayTown, so a short read-and-walk fits between turns on the slides. On the city’s SculpTour brochure map, a sculpture called Tractor, by Todd Frahm, stands near PlayTown (SculpTour brochure).

Station Park: watch the trains

Station Park is a pocket park next door to the police station at 373 Buford Highway, and the city calls it “a great place to watch trains go by” (City of Suwanee). Our sources list a playground there but no restrooms, so pair it with a stop that has them. The current SculpTour also puts Dragon, by Jonathan Bowling, at Station Park.

Town Center on Main: lawn, water and a reading nook

Town Center on Main is just through the pedestrian tunnel from Town Center (City of Suwanee). At 421 Main Street it has a large lawn, a reflection pond, a waterfall and the Greater Good veterans memorial (City of Suwanee), plus two volleyball courts and a reading grotto near the library. The Reading Grotto sits beneath the pedestrian bridge. Its Bookshelf mural by Pat Perry hides literary references for readers to find; a pearl, for example, nods to John Steinbeck’s The Pearl (City of Suwanee). School-age kids can treat it as a scavenger hunt.

For an early dinner, the Suwanee Circle food truck park there is open Wednesday to Friday from 6 to 10 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 5 to 10 p.m. (City of Suwanee). More on the park is in our Town Center on Main guide.

The library on a cold or rainy day

The Gwinnett County Public Library’s Suwanee Branch is at 300 High Line Street (Gwinnett County Public Library). It is open Monday to Thursday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. That makes it the one indoor stop on this list with evening hours four nights a week.

Bark Ranger: a free booklet and a prize

Pick up a free Bark Ranger booklet at the Suwanee Welcome & Arts Center, 3930 Charleston Market Street in Town Center, or at City Hall (City of Suwanee). When it is finished, bring it back to the Welcome & Arts Center, where kids are sworn in as Bark Rangers and receive a prize. The Suwanee Arts Center staffs the Welcome Center and offers art classes for all ages there (City of Suwanee). Explore Gwinnett lists its gallery as open Tuesday to Saturday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Explore Gwinnett).

Sims Lake Park: the longer walk

Sims Lake Park, at 4600 Suwanee Dam Road, covers 62 acres with a seven-acre lake and a 1.2-mile looping trail (City of Suwanee). The city lists a lake with a dock, a partially covered playground, picnic tables, an outdoor classroom and public restrooms. The pavilion is first-come; the city doesn’t rent it because parking there is limited (City of Suwanee). Look for Audubon Watcher, a sitting figure by sculptor Jim Collins.

For older kids: Main Street Park and the Orchard

Main Street Park, the half-acre park at 687 Main Street next to the red caboose, reopened on August 1, 2026 after a renovation (City of Suwanee). Its basketball court carries Momentum, a surface mural by Annabel Joyner. White Street Park at 752 White Street holds the Orchard, a one-acre site with lawns, paths and natural play features that the city calls the first public orchard in the Southeast (City of Suwanee).

Rules that still apply

  • City parks are generally open sunup to sundown (City of Suwanee).
  • Town Center Park allows no ball games or organized ball play, and no skateboards, motorized vehicles or drones (City of Suwanee).
  • Dogs must be leashed in Town Center Park, and owners clean up after them.

Coming up with kids in mind

Dinner & a BOOvie is Saturday, October 24, 2026, from 5 to 10 p.m. in Town Center Park, with trick-or-treating along the Town Center Avenue storefronts, inflatables, food trucks and two outdoor movies at 6 and 8 p.m. (Explore Gwinnett). Jolly Holly Day follows on Friday, December 4, 2026, when Santa arrives at 6:30 p.m. (Explore Gwinnett). To compare every playground, pavilion and restroom side by side, use our Suwanee parks guide.
