Downtown district

Suwanee Town Center: the park, City Hall, Big Splash and the rules

The short answer

Suwanee Town Center is the downtown district at Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road and Buford Highway: more than 63 acres, built as a public-private partnership around the 10-acre Town Center Park and City Hall at 330 Town Center Avenue. The park has the Big Splash fountain (April 1 to October 31), an amphitheater stage, looping paths and public art. Leashed dogs are welcome; your own alcohol, glass and ball games are not.

Suwanee Town Center is the newer half of downtown Suwanee, Georgia, at the intersection of Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road and Buford Highway (City of Suwanee). It is built around the 10-acre Town Center Park and Suwanee City Hall, both at 330 Town Center Avenue (City of Suwanee). The city describes downtown as two areas, historic Old Town along Main Street and Town Center (City of Suwanee); our Old Town guide covers the other half, and Town Center on Main joins the two.

What Town Center is

Town Center was built on a former industrial site as a public-private partnership covering more than 63 acres. By the city’s count it holds more than 100,000 square feet of retail space, 87,000 square feet of office space, 147 townhome and condominium units, 85 single-family homes, Town Center Park and City Hall (City of Suwanee). The park is the community’s main gathering place for special events. City Hall is a two-story, art deco-styled building with a 103-foot clock tower and a Council Chamber overlooking the park. Citing USGBC records, the city says it was the first city hall in Georgia to earn LEED certification (City of Suwanee).

Welcome Center, Arts Center and Bark Ranger

The Suwanee Welcome Center is at 3930 Charleston Market Street, under a bright blue awning. The Suwanee Arts Center staffs it under a partnership with the city and holds art classes and a gallery there (City of Suwanee). Explore Gwinnett lists the gallery as open Tuesday to Saturday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Explore Gwinnett). Families can pick up a free Bark Ranger activity booklet there or at City Hall, then bring it back finished to be sworn in as a Bark Ranger and get a prize (City of Suwanee).

Walking on, biking, eating and parking

Town Center on Main & DeLay Nature Park is “just through the pedestrian tunnel” from Town Center Park, per the city (City of Suwanee). That is where the 1,200-foot bridge, the library, PlayTown Suwanee and the Suwanee Circle food trucks are; see our Town Center on Main guide. Old Town’s Main Street runs parallel to Buford Highway just west of the railroad tracks (City of Suwanee).

Koloni bikes are kept at Town Center Park: the first 2 hours are free, then $2 per hour (City of Suwanee). For food, see our places to eat, which lists only businesses we could confirm. City Hall parking is on Charleston Market Street, Savannah Square Street and Town Center Avenue, with accessible spaces at the front (City of Suwanee). The city’s map also marks a large lot west of City Hall and a deck across Buford Highway, and marks the townhomes directly south of City Hall as no public parking (City of Suwanee).
