How the park came to be

The city bought the 25-acre site at the corner of Suwanee Dam Road and Main Street in 2002, as an early purchase under its park and open space initiative. The City Council approved a master plan for it in 2016 (City of Suwanee). In January 2026 the Georgia Municipal Association, with Georgia Trend, named Suwanee a 2026 Visionary City Award honoree in the Medium Cities category for Town Center on Main. The city says it unifies Old Town and Town Center into one walkable downtown, partly by rerouting Main Street (City of Suwanee).

What is in the park

  • A large lawn, a reflection pond and a hilltop waterfall (City of Suwanee).
  • The 1,200-foot bridge, which spans the park (City of Suwanee).
  • Two volleyball courts.
  • The Reading Grotto, beneath the pedestrian bridge and steps from the library (City of Suwanee). Its Bookshelf mural is by Michigan artist Pat Perry. Each painted object points to a work of literature; a pearl, for instance, nods to John Steinbeck’s The Pearl. In 2026 the mural was named a CODAaward Merit Winner in the Murals category (City of Suwanee).
  • Greater Good, the veterans memorial by artist Michael Szabo. It is 20 feet tall, with six arcs rising from a water feature to stand for the six military branches. Nearly 200 commemorative plaques honoring individual veterans surround it. The city dedicated it on November 9, per a city release posted November 15, 2024 (City of Suwanee).
