Start at City Hall, 330 Town Center Avenue (City of Suwanee), walk through the pedestrian tunnel to Town Center on Main, pass the library and PlayTown, and follow Main Street into Old Town, where the red caboose, Main Street Park and Pierce’s Corner sit together. The city has not published a distance for this route, so we won’t give one. The only walking time it offers between the two districts is “a quick ten-minute walk” from the Town Center lot behind Ippolito’s to Old Town, on its Summer Porch Jam page (City of Suwanee).
This walk is newer than it sounds. The city says Town Center on Main, which opened in 2024, joins historic Old Town and Town Center into one connected, walkable downtown, partly by rerouting Main Street. That project earned Suwanee a 2026 Visionary City Award from the Georgia Municipal Association with Georgia Trend (City of Suwanee). In Old Town, Main Street runs parallel to Buford Highway just west of the railroad tracks (City of Suwanee).

1. City Hall and Town Center Park
City Hall opened in February 2009 and is open to the public weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (City of Suwanee). Its 103-foot clock tower faces the park. If the doors are open, step into the lobby for Shimmering Echoes, the suspended sculpture by Seattle artist Koryn Rolstad, installed in 2010 (City of Suwanee). Out front, Town Center Park holds Remembrance, the 9/11 memorial with a steel relic from the World Trade Center, unveiled September 11, 2013, and a section of the Berlin Wall on permanent display (City of Suwanee). The park has public restrooms, worth knowing before you set off.
The Suwanee Welcome Center, at 3930 Charleston Market Street under a bright blue awning, has city information if you want a paper map (City of Suwanee).
2. The pedestrian tunnel
From Town Center, the city says Town Center on Main & DeLay Nature Park is “just through the pedestrian tunnel” (City of Suwanee). A city release describes the same link from the other side: “walk through the pedestrian tunnel near the library to Main Street” (City of Suwanee). Our sources don’t describe the tunnel entrances in more detail, so check the map on our parking page if you are unsure where to head.
3. Town Center on Main and the bridge
Town Center on Main, at 421 Main Street, is a roughly 13-acre urban park (City of Suwanee) with a large lawn, a reflection pond and a waterfall. Its centerpiece is Greater Good, a 20-foot veterans memorial by artist Michael Szabo, with six arcs rising from a water feature for the six military branches and nearly 200 plaques honoring individual veterans around it (City of Suwanee). A 1,200-foot bridge spans the park (City of Suwanee).
SculpTour pieces line this stretch. The city’s brochure map puts A Distant Calling, Life Cycle and PROMISE along the High Line Street edge and six more inside the park, though placement on that image map is approximate (SculpTour brochure). If you plan to end the walk here at dinnertime, Suwanee Circle’s food trucks run Wednesday to Friday from 6 to 10 p.m. and weekends from 5 to 10 p.m. Our Town Center on Main guide covers the park in full.
4. The library and the Reading Grotto
The Gwinnett County Public Library’s Suwanee Branch is at 300 High Line Street (Gwinnett County Public Library). The branch opened in 2004 (City of Suwanee). The Reading Grotto sits beneath the pedestrian bridge, steps from the library (City of Suwanee). Its Bookshelf mural, by Michigan artist Pat Perry, was named a 2026 CODAaward Merit Winner in the Murals category (City of Suwanee). Each painted object refers to a work of literature. A SculpTour piece, Novel Idea by Craig Gray, stands by the library.
5. PlayTown Suwanee
PlayTown Suwanee is at 425 Main Street. More than 1,200 volunteers rebuilt it as PlayTown Suwanee 2.0 in October 2023 (City of Suwanee), and it has public restrooms. Behind it, a StoryWalk runs along the Brushy Creek Greenway. Tractor, by Todd Frahm, is the SculpTour piece near PlayTown.
6. Into Old Town
Old Town Suwanee is an approximately 56-acre historic district with commercial and residential areas dating from 1871 to the early 1960s, laid out along Main Street beside the Norfolk Southern railroad (City of Suwanee). Le Tour Polka Dot, by Jack Howard-Potter, stands west of the railroad near Main Street on the brochure map. For a train-watching detour, Station Park is a pocket park next to the police station at 373 Buford Highway (City of Suwanee), with Dragon by Jonathan Bowling.
7. The red caboose and Main Street Park
The caboose dates from 1950 (City of Suwanee) and stands on Main Street near Pierce’s Corner, overlooking the shops in Old Town. The Caboose Lighting tradition began on Thanksgiving 1994. The city hasn’t published a 2026 date, so check its calendar as the holidays approach.
Next door, Main Street Park is a half-acre park at 687 Main Street that reopened on August 1, 2026. It has a basketball court with Momentum, a surface mural by Annabel Joyner, plus a pavilion, open lawn and seating (City of Suwanee).
8. Pierce’s Corner and the Futurist mural
Pierce’s Corner is a two-story building completed in 1910 that served as one of the area’s few convenience stores (City of Suwanee). The city has owned it since 2005, and the Downtown Development Authority maintains it. Its mural, Futurist, is painted on a wall 97 feet long and 30 feet high, per Explore Gwinnett (Explore Gwinnett). In June 2025 the DDA announced BOCA Taqueria for the building, with an opening planned for spring 2026 (City of Suwanee). We could not confirm it has opened, so check before planning a meal around it.
9. The former Bank of Suwanee
The former Bank of Suwanee building at 659 Main Street was built in 1908 as a branch of the Bank of Buford, according to the city’s Old Town tour brochure (Old Town tour brochure).
Side trips: the historic markers
The city has installed historic markers at the Rhodes Hotel, Pierce’s Corner, the caboose, Jackson Street Cemetery, the Suwanee Methodist Church and Everett’s Music Barn (City of Suwanee). The four beyond Main Street:
- Rhodes Hotel, Russell Street. Built in 1880 by Daniel M. Born for his daughter Lillie and her husband, Henry W. Rhodes (City of Suwanee). It now houses Huthmaker Violins.
- Suwanee Methodist Church, Scales Road. After a 1909 windstorm destroyed the church, the congregation moved from the west end of Main Street to the hilltop on Scales Road in 1910 (City of Suwanee).
- Jackson Street Cemetery. Deeded in 1919 for use as a cemetery. Grady Daniel, whom the city names as the first African American to serve on the Suwanee City Council and a WWII Navy veteran, is buried there (City of Suwanee).
- Everett’s Music Barn, 4055 Stonecypher Road. On Saturday nights, the barn’s own site says doors open at 6 p.m. and shows start at 7 p.m. (Everett’s Music Barn); a city page says 8 p.m., so confirm with the venue. It is an alcohol-free venue (Explore Gwinnett).
Getting back
Retrace your steps through Town Center on Main and the tunnel. If you would rather not walk both ways, the city’s parking map marks lots on the Old Town side by the Court building, the Police building, the Church and the Library, so a second car or a pickup works. The city’s Koloni bikes are another option from Town Center Park or Town Center on Main: the first 2 hours are free, then $2 per hour (City of Suwanee). For more on what to see once you arrive, read our Old Town Suwanee guide.
